Debra Royston

Debra is inspired by land and seascape, she uses paint to explore the beauty within them. She paints instinctively and intuitively, often mixing colour on the canvas, directly absorbing each colour and mark as it happens. Her paintings are built up gradually with many layers, sometimes scrapping back the paint to reveal the layers beneath. She sees it as an act of sculpting the surface of the canvas. She says ‘Always, with each piece I produce, it is more than one element that inspires me to create;- sight, smell, touch- all have their place within the canvas’
